Families in Nature, a non-profit organization with a mission to connect children and their families to nature and to each other through time spent learning, playing and volunteering outdoors, is seeking a part time Program Intern. This paid position reports to the Program Coordinator and will work closely with experienced FIN staff, guides and volunteers. The Program Intern’s primary responsibility is assisting with the administration of our educational programs; secondary responsibility is to support community programs and other events. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to our mission as well as strong communication skills. This position is integral to our work of providing engaging programs that aim to inspire all families to fall in love with nature and foster the next generation of conservationists.

This position will provide opportunities to develop leadership, professional network, teaching skills, environmental knowledge, and outdoor skills, while providing experience in a non-profit environment. Training will be provided in many areas throughout the internship with opportunities to become certified in First Aid, CPR, and more.

Willing to camp as part of working with groups
Willing to wear many hats and have many responsibilities
Positive and a team player
Spanish language preferred
Ability to drive and access to a vehicle preferred

Responsibilities:
Support Program Coordinator with the planning and implementation of programs, including our Ecologist School in-person lessons
Assist with teaching and leading program activities, including outdoor environmental science, hiking and service learning projects
Research and create support materials relevant to Ecologist School in-person lessons
Support staff during outreach and other events, such as camping trips
Develop and maintain relationships with youth and their families
Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all youth and families
Perform other tasks as assigned
Ability to lift and carry camping gear, hike distances up to 6 miles, with comfort in the outdoors under all circumstances

Location: While based in Austin, this position may require very occasional travel to other parts of Texas, including the Dallas and Houston area for camping trips.

This position’s hours vary seasonally. Must be available on several weekends, particularly in fall and spring. This is a paid position at a competitive pay rate. Pay commensurate with experience. All interns must be over the age of 16 years old. College credit is available depending on the requirements of your college or university (paid compensation may be subject to educational institution’s interning rules).
