Communication Coordinator for Families in Nature

Families in Nature is seeking a full-time Communication Coordinator to help us carry out our vision of inspiring all families to fall in love with nature and fostering the next generation of conservationists. This person is responsible for the quality and successful implementation of our communications and marketing, for engagement with our stakeholders, for assisting with program implementation, and for expanding and supporting FIN’s work through multiple communications channels. The ideal candidate is a multi-skilled individual who is experienced, outgoing, self-motivated, creative, organized and passionate about connecting children and their families to nature. In collaboration with FIN staff, the Communication Coordinator will have the opportunity to shape and support the growth of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and implement Families in Nature communication strategies.
  • Help tell the stories of Families in Nature to demonstrate our impact, increase our reach, and communicate the importance of our work.
  • Manage social media channels to increase our engagement and reach.
  • Create and distribute our monthly newsletter.
  • Communicate regularly with our member families to increase engagement and support them in spending more time in nature.
  • Communicate often and creatively with all stakeholders to increase participation in our Ecologist School programs, including earning badges and gathering data/stories on participation to use in communications.
  • Communicate with our partners, including schools, organizations, sponsors, supporters, and other stakeholders to ensure continued and engagement, knowledge of our work, and participation.
  • Communicate regularly with our Guides to ensure engagement and build a vibrant community of practice.
  • Create graphics and other communication tools, including event flyers, program marketing materials, fundraising tools, how-to guides, and more.
  • Create, edit, and manage photo and video assets to increase knowledge of and engagement with our organization.
  • Manage, write, and solicit contributions to our blog to increase engagement with our work through our website.
  • Assist with keeping our website wording, program descriptions and resources up to date and engaging, including SEO, utilization of google analytics and more.
  • Assist staff with events and program implementation, as needed, including but not limited to seasonal direct teaching of FIN events, guide development courses, and more.
  • Assist staff and volunteers in representing Families in Nature at Outreach Community Events.
  • Assist staff in thought leadership initiatives, such as conference presentations, articles written, award nominations, etc.
  • Support our development director in our fundraising strategies by contributing communications, including but not limited to inviting the community to our annual gala, creating graphics, and creatively inviting participation in giving through communication channels.
  • Act as an ambassador for our work.
  • Accurately and effectively represent Families in Nature and its mission.
  • Respond to and absorb additional tasks as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher, fields of communication or marketing preferred
  • Working knowledge of outdoor activities, biology, ecology, environmental science (or related) preferred
  • Experience in marketing and communications
  • Fluency in Spanish Language preferred
  • Driver’s License and access to vehicle required
  • Positive attitude and contagious passion for nature that will engage our community
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Knowledge of Google Docs, Canva, Adobe Lightroom, WordPress or html preferred
  • High attention to detail, ability to multitask, and ability to maintain accuracy when performing tasks
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently in a non-office setting and as a member of a team
  • Ability to lift and carry camping gear, hike distances up to six miles, with comfort in the outdoors under all circumstances is preferred

Hours: This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week with a seasonal variance in weekly hours dependent on the program schedule. Weekend time will be required periodically. Other work time will be on a flexible work schedule. Work time will be at home, as part of a team with other staff, and in the field.
