Families in Nature welcomes any families who would like to be involved in FiN to join us by registering on our website and starting a group of their own in their area. We are an alternate to gender-based scouts. In Austin, families may be part of a specific group, or be independent members. All registered members of FiN in Texas will have access to the Master Calendar on our website and can RSVP to any of the events on that calendar.
The annual registration fee is kept as low as possible to make access to nature possible for all families. FiN does not require fundraising by its members. Donations are always appreciated, but fundraising is never required. We would rather you spend time outside with your family than fundraising on our behalf.
Many of FIN communities are aimed at a specific age group, school, or place. The Central (original) group is beginning its 10th year and has over 40 families, many of whom have been in the group since 2008. If you would like to be part of a FIN Nature Community and you can’t find space in one that fits your family, you are always welcome to start a new group. All it takes is asking 4 or 5 other families to go on a hike with your family and you will have the beginnings of your own Nature Community. Please fill out the guide/leader application on the website if you would like to start your own group. Families in Nature will train new Guides and help them start new Nature Communities. We will also help you find families to join the group and assist in planning activities for the year.
Families in Nature Guides are welcomed into a community of like-minded individuals that are working towards the common goal of connecting families to nature and fostering the next generation of conservationists. FIN Guides receive training, support, mentoring, and access to the FIN Junior Ecologist Curriculum from Families in Nature.
